Selection: French Onion Soup and
Pulled Pork Sliders
I live within walking
distance to this eating establishment which is located in Oak Creek Country
Club (OCCC). There's also a lending library in OCCC so I can pick up a
new book and grab a bite to eat.
They've had some
change in ownership and change in management over the past year or so and I
think they are still trying to find their way into the hearts, minds, and
stomachs of the dinner crowd. In my opinion, some adjusting is still
needed.
Open for breakfast and lunch daily, Redstone is now open only on Friday and Saturday nights for dinner. They have a selection of 3 items on the dinner menu. They do have a menu of pizza and BBQ items, but the host/hostess doesn't necessarily offer that menu as standard practice. You have to ask for it. (Strike 1)
This is the second time I ordered French Onion soup. I love soup in general, and I particularly like a good French Onion soup. This is not the place to find it. The soup is very salty (you get used the saltiness, but why should we have to get used to it) and they seem to be minimalists when it comes to the cheese topping.
I initially ordered the Pulled Pork BBQ sandwich (Pulled Pork topped with coleslaw on a bun). Oops, that is for lunch only. Instead, I had to order the Pulled Pork Sliders and a side of coleslaw so I could make my own copy of the lunch offering. The sliders (you get three) were $9 and the side of coleslaw was $1.75.
Okay, I know lunch is over at 4pm, but since you offer the same thing in a slightly different format after 4pm, why can't I have what I want? (Strike 2)
Even though the sliders are smaller than a regular sandwich, they are still a decent size and that means three buns, which is a lot of bread. But the pulled pork was tender and it wasn't overloaded with BBQ sauce. The lunch version ($10) includes a side and that would be a good choice..
My daughter had a Calzone ($12) and French Onion Soup and the bill for 2 meals came to $33. That's pretty expensive considering we got lunch-type items.
